Nelson Mandela turns 95 years of life today

Today Nelson Mandela celebrated his 95 years of life, and celebrates with the rest of the world that pays tribute to his fight against racial segregation system of apartheid and for equal rights.

Countries around the world hold events in honor of the former South African national hero and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Meanwhile, the UN will convene a special General Assembly in his honor, to be attended, among others, former U.S. President Bill Clinton and singer Harry Belafonte, among other prominent characters of the show and politics.

Millions of people commit today to participate in social events during the 67 minutes that represent the 67 years that Mandela was active politically -27 years in prison, in the Nelson Mandela International Day.

It seems that Mandela Day this year will be special: in South Africa is planning a wave of actions. Millions of schoolchildren will sing in the morning in honor of the father of the “Rainbow Nation”. Radios and televisions emit the song “Happy birthday” and Pretoria hospital where Mandela is hospitalized for six weeks, it has become a pilgrimage site where South Africans of different backgrounds and races lay flowers, stuffed animals, balloons and others present. The official medical reports speak of a Mandela in critical, but stable.
