Jaime Nebot goes for the reelection of major

The mayor of Guayaquil, Jaime Nebot Saadi, changed his posture;  during an interview with newspaper Expreso, Nebot said “I’m running for mayor and not for opposition leader.” He added that he did not seek to create a difference between Ecuador and Guayaquil, “I think it is the citizens who should make that difference.”

For the past 13 years Jaime Nebot has remained as mayor of Guayaquil, now just seven months away for the new elections to take place, the mayor added, “I had made the decision to retire. The only reward that an honest and supportive public server has, also a successful one, in the opinion of the people, is precisely the love of people. And I have this reward.”

Nebot changed his mind, believing that “The aspiration of Guayaquil, to  live better,  to be a better city, of success, might be truncated,” this notion prompted him to resume the re-election.

However, Nebot acknowledged that he’s not afraid of the idea of not being the mayor since he knows that “Someday there will be a Guayaquil without Nebot, as there was a Guayaquil without Olmedo, and one without Febres-Cordero. I worry about who will be the replacement.”

Finally he said, “I’m running for mayor and I’m not running for leader of the opposition (…) I am in favour of what is best for the people and what is best for my city. I am not an adversary to Correa.”
