President Correa will propose reforms on the Inter-American System at the ALBA

Posted On 24 Jul 2013

On next July 30 in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, during the summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of America (ALBA), the President Rafael Correa will make some proposals for a reform on the Inter-American Human Rights System of Human Rights (IAHRS).

The announcement was made at a public meeting with the president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, on his official visit to Ecuador, where they said that the reforms on ISHRS are necessary and also said that if the summit does not address issues such as the international blockade against Cuba or Argentina’s claim over the Falkland Islands “everything else is hypocrisy” and “it becomes meaningless.”

Therefore, Correa said that the summit should raise these reforms so that the Inter-American System will “truly reflects its purpose: to defend human rights, international law and the sovereignty of states.”

In the bilateral meeting with his Bolivian counterpart, the Ecuadorian president reported on five agreements that were signed yesterday. Those were the agreements on health, communication, justice, protection of heritage and environmental management.
