The presidents of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, and Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, along with his top aides, are meeting in Caracas. Among the topics covered is the energy, given that they are the only two countries in the region that are members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

In the afternoon, Correa will meet in a theater of western Caracas with members of the Ecuadorian community living in the country to hear their needs and meet some requirements.

The foreign ministers of Venezuela, Elias Jaua, and Ecuador, Ricardo Patino, planned to give details of the presidential meeting and the “binational cabinet” in a press conference later.

The last “binational cabinet” was held in the Ecuadorian city of Salinas in June 2011, with the presence of the deceased Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and on that time twelve agreements and understanding memos were signed, including one for the construction of a refinery and one for the creation of a joint venture to build houses.

In today’s meeting would be planned an aid program from Ecuador to the Government of Maduro to solve food shortages.
