Guayaquil revived its independence from the awakening of the “Aurora Gloriosa”

As part of the celebrations of the city for its anniversary of independence, yesterday the Municipality held a solemn meeting in the square of Integration, chaired by Mayor Jaime Nebot, who confirmed his candidacy for reelection. The current mayor stressed that this will be his last candidacy, as permitted by The Ecuadorian Constitution.

Meanwhile Ecuadorian president, Rafael Correa, in his popular session, held in the stadium Alberto Spencer, mentioned that in the elections the mayor of Guayaquil, “will be defeated by the beauty, thrust and youth of a Guayaquilean woman,” simultaneously it was projected a picture of him and Viviana Bonilla, current Governor of Guayas, together.

Due to the celebrations, on the morning of October 9, at 5 am, the city woke up with a a civic event in honor of the 193 years of Independence, when in a solemn session led by Gloria Gallardo, Director of Tourism of the City Hall, placed wreaths at the Fragua de Vulcano monument.

The orchestra of the school Republica de Francia sang Guayaquil’s anthem. Then, the women dressed in typical clothes  danced with their knights.

Also, at the foot of the Heroes of Independence Column in The Centennial Park, were  laid wreaths. The event was led by Governor Viviana Bonilla, the Minister of Defence, María Fernanda Espinosa; on the same site, solemn acts were held by The Assembly members and Mayor Nebot.

In the second stage of the municipal parade ‘Guayaquil is my destiny’ , thousands of students marched  through the Nueve de October Avenue, accompanied by the melody  of the song “Guayaquileño, madera de guerrero.”

The Armed Forces also paid tribute to the city with an air, motorized and pedestrian parade at the Narcisa de Jesus Avenue. It started prior to the admission of the president Rafael Correa, and the Minister of Defence, María Fernanda Espinosa, who arrived escorted by the Grenadiers of Tarqui, and the formal greeting by the aircraft.

Then, it was time for the colorful costumes and live music. Decorated floats to the sound of folk music graced the main streets of the port city. One of the most acclaimed acts was the acrobatics of a bastonero from the school Vicente Rocafuerte, and The presentation of break dancing artist Francisco Arízaga .
