Since last December, Tababela’s airport, in Quito, established the wildlife control program in air operations using natural predators, which consists in the constant vigilance of 4 eagles and two hawks to scare other birds, which circulate in the sector, as kilicos, pigeons, doves, sparrows and owls.

Both eagles and hawks are properly trained to fly the airline terminal without trapping or attacking any other species. The main objective is to prevent accidents that wild birds can cause to airplanes.

These trained birds were brought from Germany on  November 18thlast year. Four eagles (two males and two females,) and two hawks (one male and one female,) were trained to fear no man and to be the guardians of the airport.

Currently, the birds are strengthening their muscles and practice their hunting flight, which is different from a walk, courtship or migration, ensures Spanish Ruth Muñiz, bird trainer.
