The Criminal Code returned to the National Assembly, following the review by the presidency which was presented to all legislators yesterday. President Rafael Correa  made 73 objections to the document.

Something to remark is the toughening  of sanctions for 13 offenses, among which are extortion and the traffic of influences. Likewise, the non-affiliation of employees to Social Security, which the Presidency established it as an offense with a sanction of 1-3 years in prison.

Illicit enrichment, slander and theft were crimes that were delimited. To this is added the prohibition to replace the preventive detention for pregnant women by house arrest.

It is estimated that the vote will take place before February 10, once the Justice Commission analyze the comments and make a non-binding report to the plenary.
