Politicians face each other over import issues
Under the restriction on imports of certain products, Industries Minister and leader of Avanza, Ramiro Gonzalez, and former banker and founder of CREO, Guillermo Lasso, had a political dispute.
During an interview on Ecuavisa, Lasso questioned the government of Rafael Correa for running, among other things, a restriction policy that limits “freedom of choice” and “shrinks businesses,” which would lead the country to massive unemployment, which is why he promoted an alternative, “a modern economy, integrated to the world, that promotes trade, that promotes investment for Ecuador in order to stop being the scarecrow of foreign investment in Latin America.”
During the same TV program, in response to statements by Lasso, Gonzalez invited the former banker to put “that thought into effect in his bank, to stop giving consumer credit and start giving credit to farmers, entrepreneurs (…) without asking for the 140 % guarantee, that is how you make country, and not by going on holiday abroad… take a vacation to the East, there you will not break your foot, there you will have good care.”
Meanwhile, Lasso regretted that political dialogue “fell into such a poor level” and made a call to keep “principles and concepts.”
