SRI confiscated more than 2 million in garments with false labels

More than $2 ‘ 400.000 were confiscated in furs, coats, pants, as the result of the operations performed by the Service of Internal Rents (SRI) in Guayaquil, Cuenca, Ambato, Loja, Portoviejo and Quito, against impersonation of national labels on garments of foreign origin that entered the country unlawfully.Ximena Amoroso, Director of SRI, said yesterday that they carried out controls to the marketing chain to see where and who produced the clothes in order to determine whether it is or not of domestic origin.
The tax evasion of the merchandise coming from Vietnam, China, United States, Italy, Brazil and Cambodia would exceed $ 1 million.
For Javier Díaz, President of the Association of Textile Industrial (AITE), these actions make visible the existence of smuggling. `It is evident that the garments are entering without paying any tariffs (…), the Customs Office has informed us of about $10 million last year,´ added Diaz.
