Manta will have a joint military base

The Defence Minister Maria Fernanda Espinosa, said that Manta will have a joint military base.

“It will be an operational center that fits to the risk and threats scenario and to the decision of operating 3 joint forces and having air bases in Manta, Salinas (Santa Elena) and Jumandy (Napo)”, said the official.

The construction of the Manta base will mean the transfer of the Military Force Manabi (located in Portoviejo) to the port city.

“If possible the works will begin next week. The space that occupies our land force will stay within the city. Obviously, in order to transfer a unit to another site, the necessary facilities will be needed”, Espinosa said.
