At least 57.5 million people will need humanitarian aid in the world in 2015, the UN announced on Monday, specifying that the assistance includes only those whose lives will be at risk if they do not receive vital assistance.

The Deputy Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, Valerie Amos, said on Monday at a press conference in Geneva that in order to address these victims, the donor community should contribute with 16,400 million dollars next year.

It is planned to use 80% of these resources to provide assistance to victims of war and other situations of extreme violence.

That reality, however, is confronted with a growing gap in funding from donors, said in Geneva the humanitarian operations leaders of the UN.

“The number of people who needed help during 2014 increased considerably and every year needs and the the funding gap increase,” said the humanitarian UN official in Geneva.
