The Venezuelan opposition leader Henrique Capriles called on Monday on Venezuelans to mobilize peacefully before the severe economic crisis faced in the country, reports the AP.

“In the coming hours we will speak and say what are the actions (…), but I want to make it clear to the gentlemen of the government” that this is a call to “street mobilization,” told Capriles to the private radio station Radio Caracas Radio (RCR).

The opposition member insisted that the protests must be peaceful and barricades shall not be made to close the streets, as it occurred during anti-government protests of opponents and students in the first half of last year, which left 43 dead and hundreds of injured and detainees.

“Now that people are on the streets, in lines, they must mobilize to claim their demands … It’s time for the people to wake up so that their rights are respected.

His call to action comes a day after noticing that citizenship “begins to despair and run out of patience” with the proliferation of lines in large and small markets to try to stock up on basic goods.
