6 months ago began the research and detected an organized structure which was dedicated to the deliberate fishing of sharks for their fins. There are 6 detainees.

Diego Fuentes, Deputy Interior Minister, said that investigations determined that found fins were not obtained by bycatch, thus after the nine raids reported on Wednesday afternoon it was concluded that approximately 96% of the fishing that is carried out in boats on the high seas was only for shark. Even of some species whose catches are prohibited, as the hammer.
“They had around a centre of collection, processing and a whole structure dedicated to transport this resource so that, after being processed in Manta, could exit at certain crossings as Peru and be marketed to Asia by values that range for each set of fins in approximately 50 to 60 dollars,” revealed Fuentes.
He added that all 200,000 fins would have been captured in the last 20 days, and announced that is expects a report on guidelines and permissions that were found in the raids of the Undersecretary of fisheries resources (SRP).
