Roberto Aspiazu: elimination of the subsidy reflects the unmanageable fiscal deficit incurred by the Government
Roberto Aspiazu, executive director of the Ecuadorian Business Committee, said today in Contacto Directo, an interview program broadcast by Ecuavisa, that they have not made a specific request for the removal of subsidies on diesel and other petroleum products, regarding the statements of President Rafael Correa, on his last weekly address, who attributed to employers the authorship of the elimination of subsidies to certain fuels.
“What happens _ -said Aspiazu- _ is that for years we have talked about the rationalization of subsidies with a view to the fiscal sustainability of the country in a context of dollarization. We have witnessed what has happened in 2015 because this model of intensive public spending has accumulated an unmanageable deficit that has led us to a virtually situation of collapse and this forces the government to take measures such as cuts to this particular subsidy that costs $ 337 million.”
