Three people dead, fallen trees, flooded streets, roofs and walls of houses collapsed, are the results of the first rain of 2016 the city and neighboring counties endured last Saturday.

The heavy rain caused a landslide that demolished a tree in the Mount Sinai area, in the Camino Real cooperative (next to the Casuarina Avenue), in the northwest of the city.

The tree fell yesterday at 01:00 on the humble home of Milton Velasco, 33, who was sleeping in the house with his two year old daughter. Both died. According to residents from the area, this would have been the result of the rain.

Another victim was Luis Salcedo, 22, who was electrocuted by an underground cable, in the intersection of Esmeraldas and Clemente Ballen streets, in downtown, on his way to his home last Saturday at 22:00. Witnesses said that the area was flooded and the young university student had to get into the water, but he did not notice the power cord that ended with his life.

The Integrated Security Service ECU-911 reported that the Lizardo Garcia, Calicuchima, Alcedo, Antepara, Bolivia, La Septima, Argentina, Leonidas Plaza streets, and the Barcelona, Quito and San Martin avenues were flooded.

In Boyaca street between Clemente Ballen and 10 de Agosto streets, two trees fell on nearby buildings. The Metrovía lane was interrupted in that stretch.

Another tree fell in La Garzota neighborhood, in northern Guayaquil; as in Las Peñas campus of the Polytechnic School (ESPOL), which is next to the Cerro Santa Ana tunnel. Other trees fell on El Carmen hill, near the sport fields.

In 9 de Octubre Avenue and Chimborazo street, the tin roof of a local phone operator (Claro) fell on the sidewalk, while in Rumichaca street a wall collapsed.
