First, Los Samanes lands sold to the Ministry of Environment with an overpayment of 41 million dollars. Then, it was the turn of pensions received by retired military.

Now the controversy is centered on companies administered by the Institute of Social Security of the Armed Forces (ISSFA). In his last weekly address, President Rafael Correa said that more than 150 companies were provided to that institution.

The goal, he said_ was to strengthen its operations. These companies include caterers, five star hotels and metallurgical enterprises. The Defense Ministry released the names of 13 companies whose shares are owned by the ISSFA. Sources of that insititution queried by this daily Expreso, and that requested for privacy, ensured that the number of companies is not 150.

They explained that in 2012 the ISSFA received the management of 20 companies. Of these, seven entered a divestment and liquidation process because “they were not profitable.”
