Less beer and more liquor is the thesis of food manufacturers
The increase in the price of beer will force consumers to opt for drinks with higher alcohol content and lower prices coming from smuggling. This is the thesis of manufacturers of food and beverages (Anfab) when the tax increase to spirit drinks begins to be applied, something that includes other products.
The World Health Organization provides, according to Anfab, that drinks with a higher alcohol content mjst be levied. That´s why they consider that tax increases only to beer (the specific rate will rise from 7.24 dollars per liter to $ 12 per liter) is unjustified, while other liquors maintain the current rate.
That, says the statement, make beer a 15% more expensive. They also remember that the illegal alcohol market in the country is 25% of all alcoholic beverages, which represented in 2014 a tax loss of $ 113 million.
