Celebrations in Ecuador for the 208 years anniversary of the First Independence uprising

Today, Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno placed a wreath on the Independencia Monument, located in the Independence Square in Quito. This was his first activity to commemorate the 208 years of the First Independence uprising from the Spanish Crown.

On this national date, one of the most significant milestones for freedom is recalled, on August 10, 1809, when a group of Quito heroes declared their decision to constitute a sovereign government and this marked the route towards the liberation from the Spanish command.

cultural activities will be held at the Palacio de Carondelet, the seat of Government, at 19:30. At 20:00 there will be pyrotechnic games and people will be able to enjoy the ‘Festival of Light’ with mapping projections in various points of the historic center and a continuous presentation of the play “Dreams of Revolution.” from 20:30  to 00:00.
