Digital mobile classroom will benefit 12,600 students

During the month of January, the Profuturo program will deliver the technological briefcase to 70 fiscal educational institutions in 7 provinces of the country. The happiness of the fifth year infants of basic education, of the Republic of Bolivia School of Quito, was evident yesterday, when having tablets in their hands to develop the language class. “It’s a very useful tool because it allows us to have fun and learn at the same time,” Nicole Jácome, a fifth-year student, said excitedly.

This is the first fiscal educational institution in the country that receives the suitcase with the kit of technological tools to develop the project Digital mobile classroom. With this initiative it is expected that students develop competences through technology and teachers achieve empowerment in the application of innovative teaching methodologies. “I received a technology training class and we are in our first inverse class test,” said Concha Sánchez, fifth grade teacher. She was the first educator of the school that worked in this new modality, which consists in the exchange of ideas among the children to understand the meaning together, after the research carried out at home.

At a national level, three institutions promote the inverted class, such as the San Francisco Unit and August 10 in Quito; and the Aguirre Abad replica school in Guayaquil. Yesterday’s class was about the verb and the children perfectly identified this part of the sentence. “I love that we can have the tablets and learn through them in a more entertaining way,” said Sebastián Andrade, a Venezuelan student.

During this month, Telefónica’s Profuturo program, which finances the project will deliver the digital briefcase to the 70 educational institutions that benefit from the program that are distributed in 7 provinces, such as Pichincha, Esmeraldas, Galápagos, among others. The digital suitcase, which should be responsible for each educational institution, consists of 48 tablets, a computer, 2 routers and a small infocus with closed Wi-Fi circuit that allows the total and online connection of all equipment.

The suitcase is designed with the latest technology that allows safe transfer of the implements and also facilitates the loading of all the tablets together. The battery of the electronic devices guarantees an operation of 8 hours. “The program that is incorporated allows developing aspects of mathematics, science, literature, language. In the future, depending on the needs of each institution, additional programs and content may be incorporated, “said María Augusta Proaño, Telefónica’s executive director.

The official said that at the moment the planning of the content is designed for basic general education based on international projects to develop technical skills in students.

In addition to the subjects of the curriculum, there is a content in values such as respect, solidarity, cleanliness, among others, which are to be emphasized. The program will benefit 12,600 children and 2,100 teachers in the 7 provinces. “This will allow us to have a more digital management of both teachers and students in the country, which is the main objective of the Digital Agenda”, said Fander Falconí, Minister of Education.

Operation

From the central computer, the teacher can manage the contents, design the class he wants and observe the performance and evolution of the students in each subject. In each province there are two technical people who advise on the management of the teams and are attentive to solve the difficulties in the institutions. With this, the country joins the 23 nations of Asia, Africa and Latin America, which implement the program whose goal is to reach 10 million students by 2020. (I)
