61 dogs of the National Police were discharged with honors

Posted On 10 May 2018

Ecuadornews:

After an emotional ceremony, 61 canine agents of the National Police said goodbye to the institution where they worked between eight and 10 years. After leaving police life, dogs will be pets.

The dogs received a few words of recognition from the authorities of the National Police, who emphasized the “friendship” that is generated between the guides and their dogs in the daily work, so they become true companions. Then they dedicated a prayer to their faithful friends and a blessing was made so that their new life as pets is full of happiness.

36 of them will live with the families of those who were their guides. This is the case of Gali, a nine-year-old German shepherd who served as a companion of officer Byron Abata. The canine agent worked in the area of public relations and show and also as guard and defense.

“It was a great support in the control of public order during demonstrations,” recalls Abata. The officer received him at the end of a red carpet with a big hug. Now he will live with him in Latacunga, where he will have ample space to play and many attentions.

It was also the case of Nike, a nine-year-old dog who worked at the Guayaquil Airport. His partner José Arévalo will take him to his family’s house. “In three years he achieved eight detections of drugs in his job,” he said proudly.

Now he will be part of your home. The other dogs were adopted by pre-selected families. The Regional Canine Training Center (CRAC) received several applications from families interested in adopting. Finally, 26 were selected after a verification process and met with the new members of their household

Hada, a two-year-old mongrel dog, was dismissed and reunited with her new family. Carlos Jara received the little girl who worked during this period in public relations and show. The dog did not pass the tests to enter the anti-narcotics division, so it was decided to give it up for adoption.

César Romero was his guide during the two years of work and he dismissed her with deep sadness. “She deserves a home that gives her a lot of love and that takes care of her, because she is an excellent company,” she said as she handed it to her new father. “It gives us great sadness to see our canine companions leave,” said Police Major Iván Ayala, director of the CRAC.

“But we know that they deserve a break and that they will enjoy being part of a family that we have chosen with all the rigor”. The dogs that were dismissed have worked in different specialties: guard and defense, public relations and show, anti-narcotics, search for people, among others. “Some worked in Pedernales during the earthquake of April 16, 2016 and others got the identification and subsequent seizure of several tons of drugs,” said Ayala.

Before being delivered to their new families, the animals underwent a process of physical and psychological evaluation to determine that they fulfilled the necessary conditions to integrate into civil life. (I)
