Zapatero says that development plan in Ecuador is replicable in other places

The former president of the Spanish government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero visited Ecuador today one of the most emblematic development projects of the Ecuadorian Government, where he assured that these can be replicable in other countries, and met with President Lenin Moreno
The former president made a tour of a housing project located south of Quito that is part of the Plan “A whole life”, which the Ecuadorian Government promotes to ensure the progressive access of the most vulnerable classes to rights such as decent housing or education.
“This is a policy of not only giving a home, but offering an opportunity to work and live in community,” said Zapatero, who was accompanied during the tour by the wife of President Moreno, Rocio González, and her former Minister of Equality, Bibiana Aído, current representative of UN Women in Ecuador.
He added that “projects of this nature, which can be pioneers, are stimulating because they can be replicated in other places.”
President of the Committee “A Whole Life” and wife of President Moreno, González took Zapatero to know the Huarcay project, which includes more than 600 homes, green areas, parking, a park and other services such as training centers and child development centers.
Zapatero met during the visit the stories of some of the women to whom the Ecuadorian government granted housing in that project, as part of a government policy to “empower female heads of household and achieve economic independence,” according to a statement.
Aido highlighted in that sense the role of González as president of the plan “Toda una Vida” (a whole life) and said of her that “she is becoming an ambassador of peace, culture of coexistence and gender equality for the whole country.”
The tour ended in the grounds where an inclusive park is being built with bio-healthy games for seniors and a children’s development center.
“Very interesting the concept of community building and coexistence culture. Beyond the houses, there are productive projects around, training, prevention of violence, “said Aído after the tour.
On his third visit to Ecuador in less than a month, the former president of the Spanish government arrived in the country, accompanied by his wife Sonsoles Espinosa, to give a conference on international humanitarian law on Monday.
Several weeks ago the Ecuadorian president announced that Zapatero, who will leave Ecuador on Saturday, would collaborate with the project of a school of Political Formation in the official Alianza País movement.
He has also met with the gender desk of the Spanish Cooperation to know the work that is carried out from this instance, where all the actors of gender cooperation are articulated. (I)
