Ecuador promotes a campaign to prevent forest fires

“Ecuador without forest fires” is the name of the campaign promoted by the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition (MAATE) to prevent forest fires in the national territory. Between 2012 and 2020, losses of more than 196,429 hectares of forests and natural vegetation were recorded due to the flagella.

The Zonal Directorates of this Ministry, in coordination with local actors, will be in charge of implementing the actions of this campaign, through the following execution axes: Strengthening of local capacities; Education and communication strategy; Monitoring of early warnings, hot spots and burn scars.

Bolívar Tello, Technical Deputy Director of Operations of the Integrated Security Service ECU 911, indicated that “we will put all our efforts to work on the integral prevention of fires at the national level, taking into account each of the social and geographical aspects, and we will provide all the necessary support, with all our tools for the Ecuador Without Forest Fires campaign”.

Rodrigo Rosero, Undersecretary General of the National Risk and Emergency Management Service, said that “most fires are caused; however we are ready to fight any emergency; We have strengthened the capabilities and tools of the fire brigade and we will be able to make everything available to those who need it”.
