Tourist spending on the Carnival of Ecuador bordered on 67 million dollars

The economic movement generated by the recent Carnival holiday in Ecuador amounted to 66.8 million dollars for tourist spending during the four days of vacation, the Ministry of Tourism reported Monday.

In a statement, he noted that the figure represents “an additional 75%” to what was achieved on the same holiday in 2021, which favors the tourist and economic reactivation of the country.

According to the Ministry, in the past holiday there were more than a million trips in the country.

He added that about 88% of the trips were made through local tourism and the remaining 12% by receptive tourism.

According to the Minister of Tourism, Niels Olsen, the figures reflect the “correct decisions” of the Government, led by President Guillermo Lasso, such as reducing the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate from 12% to 8% in tourist services and the increase in capacity for outdoor and indoor places, “which generated savings for tourists and encouraged tourism.”

The increase in capacity occurred amid the drop in the level of covid-19 infections and the progress of the vaccination process in the country.

At the end of the holiday, Olsen thanked Ecuadorians for their support for the tourist and economic revival by touring the different tourist destinations in Ecuador.

He also congratulated the decentralized autonomous governments for the activities and events offered to encourage tourist travel.
