The first humanitarian flight from Ukraine arrived in Quito
At 10:50 this Friday, March 4, the first humanitarian flight with Ecuadorians residing in Ukraine and fleeing the war between that country and Russia arrived at Quito’s Mariscal Sucre International Airport.
It is a flight of the company Word2Fly where 248 compatriots come on board, out of 350 who initially said they would return to Ecuador.
The aircraft took off yesterday from Budapest (Hungary) to Warsaw (Poland), made a technical stop in Madrid (Spain) and from there it left for Ecuador.
The concessionaire company of the Quito airport service (Quiport) in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry, carried out an operation on the runway so that the arrival of the Ecuadorians is witnessed by 63 accredited journalists, both from national and local media as well as international news agencies. Additionally, in the parking lot, next to the airport, several tents have been installed where the parents of the students have been located, who with tears on their faces watched how the aircraft that was bringing their children landed.
The Foreign Ministry has confirmed that at 11:00 p.m. Polish time, on March 4, the second humanitarian flight managed by the Ecuadorian government will depart from the Warsaw airport. It is unknown how many Ecuadorians will travel on that flight.
Meanwhile, 7 compatriots and 2 Ukrainian citizens transferred from Bucharest to Mexico City, with the help of the government of that country, arrived this morning on the humanitarian repatriation flight of the Mexican Air Force. They are expected to arrive in Ecuador this Saturday.
