The rainy season could be extended in Ecuador
In June it is usual for rainfall to occur less frequently and for sunny days to be more continuous. However, the rainy season could still extend in the Sierra and other parts of Ecuador in the coming days.

The presence of the El Niño phenomenon affects the prolongation of the rainy season in the country.
According to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inamhi), episodes of rain will continue on the national territory. For this reason, it cannot yet be affirmed that the transition and dry seasons are close to arriving.
This is how Guillermo Flores, a technician from the Inamhi Forecasting area, explains it. On Ecuador, he adds, there are conditions or systems that allow the development of rains. This happens more on the Coast.
Current rain alert
For the following days, a rain alert is in force that will affect all of Ecuador but will have more intensity on the Coast and the Amazon.
In the Sierra, the rains will be moderate (see graph) and could occur on Wednesday, June 14 and Thursday, June 15.
El Niño affects delays
According to the historical and statistical records, the transition season normally occurs in May of each year and lasts for almost the entire month.
After that comes the dry season in which the rains do not completely disappear either, but they do occur less frequently. And that period extends until August or early September.
But the arrival of the El Niño phenomenon affects the prolongation of the current rainy season, so a shorter dry season is coming.
On the Coast, this event could be brought forward. The usual thing is that the rainy season begins in February but this year it could start in December or the end of November.
