The Municipality of Quito is working on the creation of a digital platform to find out the number of pets in the city.

Pet owners who live in Quito must register them as of 2024 on a platform developed by the capital’s Municipality.
The Animal Welfare Unit of the Municipality (UBA) reported that the initiative has two main objectives: to know the number of animals in the city and that they have a QR code to identify them in case they get lost or wander in the streets.
According to the Municipality, the registry will also be aimed at punishing the owners of the animals that do not provide them with adequate care.
In addition, commercial establishments such as veterinarians, clinics, stores, hospitals and training centers must also register on the platform on a mandatory basis.
The UBA explains that, with this process, the authorities will be able to verify that the establishments comply with the standards and parameters for animal welfare.
