Dozens of citizens gathered at 4:00 p.m. on April 17 at the Shyris Tribune, in the north center of Quito, to demonstrate their support for the Attorney General, Diana Salazar
Vuvuzelas, flags, posters and a screen with videos showing the prosecutor speaking are some of the elements that were used in the call.
“Unconditional and absolute support, Mr. President and Mrs. Prosecutor, to eliminate corruption and violence,” read a sign next to the platform that the Citizens for Democracy Collective installed to publicly read a manifesto. “They will not be condemning her but rather the country,” stated part of the text.
Carlos Figueroa, a close friend of former candidate Fernando Villacicencio , was present at the demonstration. ” Ecuador must recognize the actions of this brave woman,” he said. He also emphasized the cases led by prosecutor Diana Salazar, such as Metastasis, Purge and Plague.
Military and police also attended this political demonstration, whose presence was applauded by supporters.
“This is an expression of democracy where like-minded and non-like-minded citizens can participate,” said a citizen who attended the meeting.
Several cars gathered on De los Shyris Avenue, among them, some drivers decided to sound their horn in support of the prosecutor.
