For Time magazine, Ecuador’s prosecutor, Diana Salazar, has one of the “toughest and most dangerous jobs in the Western Hemisphere.”

The Attorney General of the State, Diana Salazar, appears on the list of the 100 most influential people of 2024 that has just been published by the American magazine Time.
Time highlights that Salazar, 42 years old, is the youngest person and the first black woman to hold the position of highest authority of the Public Ministry in Ecuador.
Diana Salazar “has one of the toughest and most dangerous jobs in the Western Hemisphere,” the magazine’s publication adds.
The Prosecutor was born in June 1981 in Ibarra. She reached the top position in the Prosecutor’s Office in 2019.
Time highlights that it has achieved the conviction of a former president and a senior soccer executive.
In 2020, he prosecuted former President Rafael Correa (2007-2017) in the Bribery case and recommended the maximum sentence of eight years.
In the last year, the prosecutor has led the investigation of alleged cases of corruption that have shaken Ecuadorian politics: Metastasis, Purge and Plague.

Salazar appears in the Leaders section, which also includes the Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi, winner of the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize, and the president of Argentina, Javier Milei.
