The senior officers of the Police and the Armed Forces arrived in Manta, where they will remain indefinitely to combat organized crime.

The mayor of Manta, Marciana Valdiviezo, welcomed the uniformed officers on June 5, 2024.
The senior police and military commanders are already in Manta, Manabí, to begin the fight against the narco-terrorist gangs, especially against Los Choneros and Los Lobos, who are maintaining a war over drug trafficking.
Upon arrival, César Zapata, commander of the National Police, said that they are going to work in conflict points in the city, but they are also going to reinforce actions in Portoviejo, Guayaquil and Los Ríos.
Reinforcements also arrived for the preventive, investigative and intelligence units of the National Police. In total there are 500 uniformed officers.
The General Command of the National Police and the Joint Command of the Armed Forces will base themselves on the Community Surveillance Unit (UVC) and the GIR, while they look for places or areas to house the new soldiers.
Among the first actions, since the night of Monday, June 4, a series of operations were carried out at points of concentration of violence in the city.
Furthermore, since the morning of June 5, 2024, the security block, made up of police and military personnel, has intervened in the El Rodeo prison in Portoviejo.
But the violence does not stop, because while the high command arrived in the city, a double crime was recorded in the Cuba neighborhood.
