A Possible Earth Displacement as a Result of Earthquake in Japan
Posted On 17 Aug 2019
According to preliminary studies by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy (INGV), the earth may have suffered a displacement of nearly 10 cm in the axis of rotation due to the devastating earthquake of 8,9 magnitude on the Richter scale produced in Japan.
According to the statement from INGV, the impact of this earthquake on the Earth’s axis may be the second largest on record, and it emphasizes that this gap has been much higher ground than the great Sumatra earthquake of 2004 and probably is the second largest, only behind the 1960 Chile earthquake.
