Alert by reversion of frequencies
On the grounds that several radio stations and television obtained theit frequencies without the approval of a “competent authority,” last September the Legal Department of the Agency for Regulation and Control of Telecommunications (Arcotel) proposed to start the reversal of more than 300 frequencies across the country, according to Fundamedios.
One of the legal grounds for such decision would be the tenth transitional provision of the Communications Law and the Report of the Commission on Frequency Control for Radio and Television of 2009, which identified renovations considered illegal.
According to Fundamedios, the list of media that would be affected includes radio stations: Sucesos, JC Radio (Quito), HCJB (in Quito, Machala and Ambato), Tropicana, Estereo Zaracay (Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas) and TV stations RedTeleSistema (RTS), Asomavisión, Televisora del Sur de Loja, to name a few.
