Alvarado announces Ecuador’s resignation of the ATPDEA with the U.S.
The Ecuadorian Communications Secretary, Fernando Alvarado, announced this Thursday, June 27, that Ecuador unilaterally and irrevocably resigned to the Treaty of Preferences (ATPDEA) with the United States.
The action took place due to the threat of certain political and media groups, for this, Alvarado said that Ecuador does not accept pressure or threats from anyone, and inserted that the benefit of the ATPDEA had become blackmail.
The secretary reported that Ecuador offers to America’s 23 million annually from those privileged with the ATPDEA for human rights training and combat torture.
Ecuadorian senior regime officials rallied after the announcement of Alvarado, among these was the National Secretary of Public Management, Betty Tola, who said that the Ecuadorian government has “not authorized” to give any document used by the former analyst of the CIA, Edward Snowden.
While Interior Minister, José Serrano, said that in Ecuador there are no wiretapping for political purposes but “only for criminal investigations.”
Finally Alvarado maintains that Ecuador has nothing to hide and to prove it invited the national and international press to demonstrate a single case in Ecuador.
