An inheritance full of edges

Carlos Baca Mancheno will take over as the new Attorney General, and will have to face a challenge: to clean the image of the institution. In recent months, the management of the still Attorney General Galo Chiriboga has accumulated criticism.

For example, he was mentioned in the Panama Papers, the leak of the International Consortium of Journalists that revealed the names of owners of offshore companies in tax havens. Chiriboga denied it. He said that Madrigal Finance Corp., established in Panama, had no links with him.

However, he remained in charge of the corruption network investigation.

Chiriboga has been identified as a supporter of the government of President Correa, in fact, he was his personal lawyer. A criticism that, it seems, will reach his successor. Last week, Baca Mancheno participated in meetings of the government bureau. The justification? The alleged analysis of corruption cases faced by the regime.
