Antarctic Ice Melts Dramatically

Antarctic ice melts
UK scientists recently discovered a mile-deep rift valley that could rival America’s Grand Canyon, in West Antarctica. The scientists believe these events are contributing to ice loss.
The steep walls of the Ferrigno Rift plunge nearly 1,5 kilometers down in the icy water. It has about 10 kilometers across and at least 100 kilometers long. It’s very probable that it goes all the way down to the sea.
According to the scientists, the canyon is connected to the warming ocean, which itself impacts upon contemporary ice flow and its eventual collapse into the sea. (AV)
