Arias was added to the Transitional Council of the Judiciary
Yesterday at 17:20, Tania Arias of Alianza Pais party was designated as the third member to work in the Transitional Council of the Judiciary. Arias earned a total of 61 votes in favor, against 48 votes. Last Friday 15, the opposition won and the order of the day was revoked.
However, during the process there were some setbacks. Washington Cruz, who was threatened by president Correa with revoking his charge, did not cast its vote. Yesterday Cruz informed Cordero that he would be leaving the block. Fernando Gonzalez also did not vote, he was expelled of Alianza Pais; Dalo Bucaram (PRE party) along with seven members of MPD – Pachakutik party who abstained from voting.
According to the Betty Amores, former member of Alianza Pais, there were talks between three legislators who met in Cordero’s office with the ministry of Politics, Doris Soliz. According to Amores some deals could have been made. (AV)
