Assembly members must pay for their trips abroad or within the country

Ecuadornews:

Three austerity measures will be taken by the National Assembly, to comply with the order that President Lenin Moreno issued in the public sector last Monday.

The members of the Legislative Administrative Council (CAL) met to take these measures. Although the legislative recess governed four of them: Elizabeth Cabezas, Carlos Bergmann, Soledad Buendía and Patricio Donoso.

Legislators Verónica Arias and Luis Fernando Torres participated via telephone.

As a first step it was agreed to suspend the trips of the assembly members abroad if they do not have the approval of President Cabezas, provided it is a priority mobilization.

Trips to the interior of the country for members of the commissions were also prohibited. They clarified that if the assembly members decide to do so, they will mobilize with their own resources or as guests, with which, in any case, the event’s host will cover the expenses.

In front of the criticisms of expenses in telephone packages, Cabezas ordered that the Administrative Department send a legal report to eliminate unnecessary expenses such as resources for the purchase of telephones, tablets and vehicles.

The third measure is related to the hiring of personnel. This action began to be taken at the beginning of March. As such, officials who were hired after March 1 and who did not have any games were disengaged.

In total, 257 people, as advisers, were separated from their duties, said CREO Assemblyman Patricio Donoso. These decisions were made by Cabezas in conjunction with the personnel of the administrative area.

The first dismissal was made on March 1 with a list of 135 people. The second was 153 employees on March 14.

Only these three measures would mean a saving of $ 4 million until December 31 of this year.

In another point, the CAL decided that no later than 24 hours the International Relations Commission should convene a permanent session to address the issue of the northern border. The members of the CAL can be added. (I)
