Australia dismissed the extradition fears of Assange into the U.S.
Bob Carr, the Foreign Minister of Australia, described as “fantasies” the fears of the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange for his extradition to the United States from Sweden.
“To suggest that the CIA has mounted a conspiracy by the Swedish justice to take him to Stockholm and from there be taken to Langley, Virginia (home to the headquarters of the CIA) is a pure fantasy,” Carr said in an interview with ABC channel.
Carr also said that Assange, who for eight months has remained inside the Embassy of Ecuador in London, would be safer in Sweden than in the United Kingdom, and said that “the Scandinavian country would never extradite someone for military or intelligence matters.”
The Australian journalist fears that Sweden deports him to United States, where he could be sentenced to the death penalty or life imprisonment.
