Authors of the book “The Big Brother” are Sentenced
Journalists Christian Zurita and Juan Carlos Calderon confirmed today that the first sentence of the trial performed by the Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa has arrived. Correa demanded the journalists due to their investigation made for the book “The Big Brother” where it shows the contracts made with companies linked to the presidents brother, Fabricio Correa.
In an off the record, TC television informed last night that the fifth judge of civil matters of Pichincha, Mercedes Pontilla dismissed the motions of Calderon and Zurita and sentenced them to pay $1 million each to the president.
The defense of Calderon and Zurita stated that Correa didn’t showed any proofs regarding moral damage. In the statements made by radio Democracia, Calderon pointed out that the president refused to present the judges request to prove any moral damages. The judge asked Correa twice, but he didn’t present anything. Finally Calderon stated, “We are expecting the respective notification to act immediately.”
