Banana farmers in Ecuador summon a march for November 15
Ecuadornews:
A peaceful march of the banana producers and exporters that ship bananas through Puerto Bolívar will take place on November 15. Activities will be paralyzed on that day.
The unions that met yesterday at the Oro Hotel resolved this measure with the aim of obtaining an official response from the Government and reviewing the port concession in favor of the Turkish company Yilport.
The meeting was attended by leaders of the Chamber of Banana Producers, The Banana Farmers Association of El Oro, the Chamber of Agriculture of the II Zone, the Agricultural Center of Machala; and the exporters were represented by delegates of the Association of Banana Exporters of Ecuador (AEBE), and the Association of Marketers and Exporters.
The problem revolves around the increase in the port rate, which would reduce the competitiveness of Ecuadorian bananas in international markets vis-à-vis other exporting countries. (I)
