Banana farmers seek dialogue with the MTOP
Ecuadornews:
The banana sector of the province of El Oro will seek another dialogue with the Minister of Transport and Public Works (MTOP) Paúl Granda to discuss the port tariffs charged by the Turkish company Yilport, the concessionaire of the port terminal in Puerto Bolivar.
Executive Director of the Association of Ecuadorian Banana Exporters (AEBE) Eduardo Ledesma indicated that El Oro exporters currently pay a tariff of $ 0.17, following an agreement between the MTOP and Yilport, which also included the revision of other tariffs this year and the next two years.
“We have not made any progress. Only the rate of $ 0.17 is maintained and they intend to collect additional tariffs of $ 0.24 and $ 0.28 the coming years, making the situation critical,” said Ledesma.
“That reduces competitiveness and we need the government to maintain the rates effective in 2016 because the current ones generate immense losses to the sector,” he emphasized. (I)
