Yesterday, Barcelona Sporting Club beat Deportivo Quito by 0-2  at the Olimpico Atahualpa Stadium, on the nineteenth day of the second stage of the Ecuadorian tournament.

The local team showed better skills in the opening minutes of the match, but the goal by Narciso Mina at minute 12 surprised Deportivo Quito.

Barcelona was more effective in the attack. They took advantage of Deportivo Quito’s mistakes and counterattacked, as a result Santiago Morales was expelled from the game (90m + 2m) for bringing down Narciso Mina who was in a solitary run towards the goal.   The referee granted Barcelona a free kick and Mina scored his second goal which gave the victory to the yellow team.

With this victory, Barcelona has 38 points in the scoreboard and is heading to conquer the championship directly; the team hasn’t run the triumphal lap since 1997.

Meanwhile, Emelec, who is still hopeful of being first, won at home 2-1 against El Nacional; Independiente Jose Teran defeated 1-0 Liga de Quito; Olmedo lost 0-2 against Deportivo Cuenca and Manta thrashed Tecnico Universitario 4 -0. The next round of the tournament will be played on Wednesday.
