Cairo Prepares for More Election Demonstrations
Once again the Egyptian activists are preparing for another massive protest in Cairo’s Tahrir Square to demand the immediate end to military rule one day prior to the country’s parliamentary elections. On November 27, 2011, the “Legitimacy of the Revolution” would perform a series of protests during the week in the centre of the capital.
Recently Mohamed ElBaradei, a possible presidential candidate announced he would drop his bid to be the chief of state if the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) allowed him to become the interim prime minister. This announcement was made last Saturday hours after SCAF officials attempt to quell the ongoing protests.
Demonstrators have proclaimed ElBaradei as the person to lead a transition to democratic rule. ElBaradei a former head of the UN nuclear agency added that he was “willing to respond to the demands of the youth of the revolution and the political forces calling for a national salvation government that represents all the national forces.” (AV)
