Chavez Calls for a “Counter Attack” in Libya
Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez today called the BRIC countries (Brazil, India, China and Russia) and Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) to launch a “counterattack” to “barbarism” of international operations against the regime of Muammar Gadhafi.
Chavez made the proposal to the BRIC countries because, in his point of view, they have expressed themselves “very strong” against attacks by U.S. and “Old European Empires” to Libya and also to the countries of the ALBA, which supported the proposal in February to mediate the conflict.
“We have to go on a counteroffensive. We can’t sit idly by,” he said after ruling out the “peace” proposal made by the African Union.
On September 1st, Chavez called for resuming the plan launched in late February for the creation of an international commission of countries that could mediate between the government headed by Gadhafi and the rebels to stop fighting. (LO)
