Chavez Increases Tensions with Paraguay
The president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez ordered the retreat of their military officers in Asuncion, and defended his foreign minister, who was being accused inciting a rebellion. The senate of Paraguay rejected the measures of Mercosur.
Chavez ordered his military troop to be translated to Buenos Aires, because there are death threats against the Venezuelan staff in their embassy. Officials of Paraguay are accusing Venezuela of preparing a coup. This announcement was made after the president of Paraguay, Federico Franco expelled the Venezuelan representatives in his country.
Foreign Minister of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, is being accused of meeting with Paraguayan generals officers in order to incite a rebellion after the congress decision to oust the former president Fernando Lugo. Chavez is defending the role of Maduro, who claims to be fulfilling a mission of Unasur.
The senate of Paraguay rejected the last Wednesday the incorporation of Caracas into Mercosur, they also qualified the dismissal of Asuncion as “illegal”. AV
