Chavez Speaks to his followers After Returning to Venezuela
Yesterday after the surprise return to his country, president Hugo Chavez appeared on the balcony of the Miraflores Palace to greet supporters and thank Cuba for its support throughout this time.
The president said that has not yet won the battle against cancer and said he had experienced “very difficult hours,” but was confident in his recovery. “(…) We started to climb the hill, we have begun to overcome the disease that was incubated in my body.”
Chavez reported that after doctors detect on him a pelvic infection, it was drained and that was the reason why he was four days in intensive care. Subsequent tests showed a tumor, without specifying its location. Then he underwent a second surgery.
“It was a major intervention, performed without complications, after which I continued to evolve successfully while receiving complementary therapies to combat the various types of cells found and continue on the path of my full recovery,” he said.
It has been rumored at first that Chavez’s cancer would be prostate cancer, but comments have raised new doubts. Dr. Michael Pishvaian, a specialist in gastrointestinal cancer, said colorectal cancer explains the first surgery of a pelvic abscess and the infection treatments. (BG)
