Chavez Talked About His Battle with Cancer
Posted On 01 Jul 2011
President Hugo Chavez spoke last night to the Venezuelan television from his convalescence in Cuba and admitted that he underwent an operation to remove cancer cells in his abdomen.
In a message recorded in Havana, broadcast by Venezuelan radio and television, the President revealed that after his surgery for a pelvic abscess last June 10 he underwent a second surgery to remove the cancerous tumor.
Chavez said that with the operations and care in Cuba he feels he is “coming out of the abyss,” but did not say when he might be able to return home.
“I’m in the battle that life put me ahead,” wrote in its subtitle the Caracas daily El Nacional as a quote by Chavez. (FO)
