Children of obese parents are at greater risk of overweight
Studies analyzing the practice of weight-loss surgery and how this procedure can help break the cycle of obesity between children and parents in an unexpected way, by affecting the behavior of the genes of children.
During the first study, Canadian researchers analyzed children born from obese women and their brothers and sisters conceived after the mother underwent a reduction surgery for obesity. The results obtained showed that children born after the mother lost weight were leaner than their brothers and had fewer risk factors that predisposed them to developing diabetes or heart disease as adults.
However, the studies indicated that several genes related to health problems linked to obesity, worked differently in younger siblings than in their older siblings.
