Chile and Peru convene their ambassadors by in Israel conflict
The governments of Chile and Peru reported on Tuesday that they called for queries their respective ambassadors in Israel at the outbreak of military operations in that country in the Gaza Strip.
The two South American countries reiterated their call for a cessation of hostilities, supporting the request of the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon.
“Chile notes with great concern and dismay that such military operations do not respect fundamental rules of international humanitarian law, as evidenced by the more than 1,000 civilian casualties, including women and children, as well as the attack on schools and hospitals,” said the Chilean Foreign Ministry in a statement.
While the Peruvian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that his decision was made in coordination with governments of other countries in the region, at the same time urged the parties to respect the ceasefire to enable the deployment of humanitarian support.
