Chile Evacuated its “Flood” Coasts and Lifted Tsunami Warning
The Interior Minister, Rodrigo Hinzpeter, announced as a preventive measure that whole “flood” area of the coast of Chile should be evacuated before the 21:30 pm local time (00:30 GMT Sunday), with the possible arrival of a tsunami resulting from the earthquake that struck Japan.
The authority also reported that the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Navy (SHOA) lifted the tsunami warning alarm on Easter Island, where the wave may reach up to three meters and it is expected arrive at 19:47 hours (17:47 insular and 22:47 GMT).
In coastal cities like Arica, Viña del Mar, Valparaiso, and Talcahuano evacuation is already underway; while in Easter Island there are some 1,500 people at Mataveri airport, located 45 meters above sea level.
