Chilean Students Began New Demonstrations

Chilean students protest for a better education

According to the police 25,000 students started demonstrations yesterday in the centre of Santiago (Chile). The youths started the first march called by the Student Confederation of Chile (Confech for its Spanish acronym), which demands free public education with quality.

This demand continues to be the main objective of the students. The Chilean demonstration in the capital had a three km route from Italy Square to the cultural centre Estacion Mapocho. Cities like Valparaiso, Concepcion, Temuco and Valdivia also protested, but they did not surpass the 3,000 people.

During the first hours the demonstration was peaceful and joyful, hours later the Chilean president, Sebastian Pinera, confirmed that it will show the project of the tributary reform whose resources would be destined to finance the education system. (AV)
